Hi! I am Judy Huhn and I love to sew. My grandmother taught me to sew when I was seven years old. My first project was a cotton gathered skirt with a black and white comic strip print. In high school I took 4 years of home economics, but no sewing or fashion classes in college. However, learning and refining my sewing skills is an ongoing, lifetime process for me. I love to update my skills and I love meeting other people who enjoy sewing and teaching others. My non-sewing friends sometimes ask why I am taking another sewing class. The answer is to learn something. There is always more to learn.
Now I am a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, veteran, retired worker, and a “sewaholic”. That’s right, I am addicted to sewing. That is not a bad thing! I have friends with the same condition. We sew together every Wednesday, the 2nd Friday and the third Saturday of every month and we sew at home as frequently as possible. Sewing is a part of our DNA!
Why did I start blogging? Well, in November 2015, I committed to do a presentation for the Lansing, Michigan Chapter of the American Sewing Guild in November 2016. The topic was How to Morph a Few Patterns into a Coordinated Wardrobe of 12 Pieces. I am a procrastinator and I did not want to wake up one morning in October 2016 and realize I had not started this project yet! I believed if I let my friends know about my commitment, I would be compelled to follow through and be ready for the presentation in November 2016. After all, I would only have to complete one piece a month to get to the 12 completed pieces done in one year. So, I started the blog, Sew Coordinated, and blogged about each piece as I sewed. The plan worked. I was able to complete all 12 pieces and gave a presentation to the Lansing Chapter ASG November 14, 2016. I was pleased to find I could make 64 different outfits from those 12 pieces!
I enjoyed blogging as well as sewing, so I decided to continue doing both. My plan as of now is to blog about whatever sewing project I happen to be doing at the time. Our ASG Chapter’s theme for 2017 is “Sewing Along and Serging Ahead”. I decided that would be a good theme for my new blog. I can blog about sewing or serging projects. This way I can keep the “Sew Coordinated” blog separate from the current one. If anyone wants to check the Sew Coordinated Blog to see how I created the 12-piece coordinated wardrobe, it will be easier to access as a separate blog on this website. That is my current plan. I know plans can change, but this is the way I intend to start 2017. We will see what develops. I hope you will join me and sew along with me on some of my projects. We all learn from each other. If you have ideas about my projects or any others you want to share with me, please contact me at email@example.com.
I hope each of you have a successful and prosperous 2017!
